KERATIN
AFTERCARE

So you've taken the plunge and gotten a show-stopping straight hair treatment done. Kudos to you for wanting to look effortlessly put together everyday! Read on to find out the basic do's and dont's of maintaining your gorgeous new look, and maximizing the longevity of the keratin treatment. With excellent care (and depending on the seasonal humidity and individual genetics), your strands can remain smooth and glossy for up to 6 months.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIRST 2 WEEKS AFTER KERATIN TREATMENT ARE CRUCIAL AND WILL DETERMINE HOW LONG YOUR TREATMENT WILL LAST! This is the time period when the thin coating of keratin binds to each hair strand and sets in. Anything that interferes with the integrity of keeping it straight will result in uneven patches, frizz and "dents" in the hair texture.

The following tips are always mentioned by our trained PYHB Staff after administering the keratin treatment on a client:

1. The first 72 hours after treatment are the most important. Please don't wash / wet your hair. Use shower caps. Avoid swimming and sauna / steam rooms. Avoid intense workouts which might make you sweaty.
2. Do not wash your hair with regular shampoos which contain sulfates or sodium chloride (salt.) These will strip the hair and dissolve the keratin coating in the treatment. For the next 3-4 months, you will have to use a high-quality, gentle shampoo and conditioner which contains microkeratin. We recommend- Keratin Complex Shampoo + Conditioner, or Alfaparf Milano Keratin Therapy Shampoo + Conditioner. Both of these brands are available for purchase in Pakistan.
3. For 2 weeks after the keratin treatment, avoid touching your hair frequently and tucking it behind it your ear. Avoid using accessories including head bands, clips, pins, barettes, hair ties, scrunchies and sunglasses propped upon the head. (Because anything that bends the hair strands can alter the straightness of your new strands, until the keratin bonds set in.)
4. Don't use heavy oils (coconut, castor, olive) in hair for at least 2 weeks after treatment.
5. Don't bleach or dye your hair after keratin treatment. These chemicals have corrosive effects and will undo the integrity of the straightening procedure. We highly recommend that you undergo color treatments BEFORE getting keratin done, as this will actually make the color appear more vibrant and glossy! If you are interested in getting color treatments done after keratin, (especially with blond highlights), we highly recommend that you get in touch with our keratin experts who can advise you on how long you should wait, so as to not ruin the effects of the keratin procedure.)

Wash your hair for at least 72 hours after treatment!

Leave your hair down and untied for the first 3 days after treatment. Minimize touching your hair.

Style or tie hair with head bands, clips, scrunchies or anything that bends hair.

This will undo the keratin bonds of the treatment.

Use tepid water to wash and shampoo hair, and do a final rinse with cool water to seal the cuticles.

Use extremely hot water to wash hair, as this can melt away the keratin coating slowly.

For those who are interested, get highlights or color treatments done BEFORE Keratin treatment.
